William Fred Ligon

William Fred Ligon Jr., 83, died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2011 at Helena. He was a retired farmer, a veteran of the Korean War, served on the board of directors of Production Credit Association and was past President of Lee County Farm Bureau. He also served on the Lee County ASCA board for 31 years. Fred was a former member of the Lee County School Board. He was an active member of the Marianna First United Methodist Church and a member of the AGR Fraternity. Survivors are sons: William Fred "Freddie" (Kay) Ligon III, Edwin Shaw (Janet) Ligon, Charles Forrest "Chuck" (Tracie) Ligon all of Marvell; brother, Sully (Mary) Ligon of Helena; sisters, Fay Nell (George) Burton of Wilmington, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Susan Watts Ligon; brother-in-law, Jim Boedeker; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Burial: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Spring Creek Cemetery; memorial services 3 p.m. First United Methodist Church at Marianna. Visitation after the memorial services in the fellowship hall.
