Services for Roy Hulett Bean, 93, of Tyler, will be held on Friday, January 20, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rhett Ansley officiating. Burial will follow in Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery under direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home with military honors. Mr. Bean passed away January 17, 2012. He was born October 3, 1918 in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late Winslow G. Bean and music composer Mabel Bean. Roy received his bachelor's degree in music from Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway, which is now known as the University of Central Arkansas. During World War II, Roy was a navigator of B24's. He started teaching band at Fordyce High School in 1940 and later at Conway High School before moving to Texas in 1950 where he taught band and choir mostly in Beaumont and Silsbee. Roy also directed choirs in Methodist churches for over 30 years. He was principle French horn player in the Arkansas State Symphony Orchestra and played 10 years in the Beaumont Symphony. Roy was also a member of First United Methodist Church in Bullard. Mr. Bean is preceded in death by his first wife Pearl Iva Bean in 1987 and by his second wife Dorothy Bridenthall Bean in 2008. Roy is survived by his loving family including his children, Judy Breitling and husband Don of Bullard and Charles W. Bean and wife Betty of Nederland. He is also survived by five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Dustin Rounsavall, Michael Breitling, Carlos Guerra, Tim Bean, Dr. Joe Bill Belue and Chris Bennett. Visitation is scheduled from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., one hour prior to service at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Hwy. in Tyler. he family wishes to thank Roy's special friends, Brenda Hobbs, Amy Wright and Carmen Cortez, and hospice nurse Joyce Story, for their love and devotion to him.
