Bernard "Buddy" Morris Mayers

Bernard "Buddy" Morris Mayers, 74, of Star City died Monday, January 23, 2012 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. He was born March 6, 1937 in Lincoln County to the late Albert R. Mayers and Mary Nutt Mayo. Mr. Mayers was the retired Shop Manager for Shannon Chevrolet and retired from the Arkansas State Forestry Commission. He was also retired Fire Chief of the Star City Fire Department. He served on the department for over 40 years. Besides his parents, Mr. Mayers was preceded in death by a brother; Henry Albert Mayers and a sister; Vonita Cecil. Survivors include his wife; Catherine Shelby Mayers of Star City, one son; Morris Mayers and wife Shelly of White Hall, two daughters; Connie Mayers Peterson and husband Todd of Bartlett, Tenn. and Kim Mayers Lee and husband Bob of Monticello, two brothers; Ray Donald Mayers of Wilmar and Terry Wayne Mayers of Plattsville, Neb., one sister; Peggy Griffin of Sherwood and nine grandchildren. Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, January 26, 2012 at Griffin Funeral Chapel. Bro. Dwayne Roper and Bro. Carl Miller will officiate. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Drake Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steve Chatham, Mark Owen, Robert Wilson Floyd, Justin Fowler, Kelly Goins and Keith Boyd. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dalton Zachery, Malvin Ray Moore, Sid Owen, Leroy McBryde, Robert Floyd and Harold B. Moore. Arrangements by Griffin Funeral Service in Star City.
