Earl M. Stephen

Captain Earl M. Stephen, USNR Retired died Sunday, June 24th. He was 84 years old. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty Peaslee Stephen; son, Randall M. Stephen and his wife, Rhonda Stephen and her son Tod Masey; daughter, Janis E. Jessen and her husband, Joel Jessen of Dallas; grandchildren; Jena and Jonathan Jessen of Dallas; brother, Herb Stephen and his wife Allison Buckner of Tampa, Florida. Earl was the son of Earl M. Stephen Sr. and Alma Schmand Stephen. He was a retired electrical engineer with careers at Teletype facility in Little Rock (for 37 years) and AT&T. He began working at the Little Rock Teletype plant the day it opened. His military service included the Korean War and 38 years in the US Naval Reserve. He was the Arkansas US Naval Academy Information Officer and assisted in their recruiting efforts. He was a lifelong member of the First Lutheran Church and also a member of National Society of Professional Engineers, Ark. Society of Professional Engineers, Telephone Pioneers of America, Saint Vincent Auxiliary. He graduated from Little Rock High School in 1945 and his college careers included degrees from LRU, UALR and the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home located at 7724 Landers Rd. in North Little Rock on Tuesday, June 26th.
