William Charles Baxley, 87, of Crossett, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2012, at Ashley County Medical Center in Crossett, Arkansas. He was born July 30, 1924, to the late Dewey M. and Sybil Brown Baxley in England, Arkansas. Charles, along with his wife Jane, owned and operated Hanna Furniture Company in Crossett for 27 years. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Crossett where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, on the board of deacons, and as a member of the Counting Crew. An Air Force veteran of World War II, Charles served 15 years on the Crossett School Board; as vice president and member of the Crossett Chamber of Commerce; as board member of the Crossett Rotary Club, where he was named a Paul Harris Fellow; as past president of the Arkansas Furniture Association; and as member of the Board of Directors for First State Bank. He was a former Golden Gloves boxer and an avid softball player and bowler. He loved to crappie fish all over southeast Arkansas and was a dedicated fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jane Lawrence Baxley of Crossett, Arkansas; two daughters, Linda Baxley Landers (Steve) of Marion, Arkansas, and Beth Baxley Parker (Keith) of Crossett, Arkansas; two sisters, Carol Clem (Hollis) of Little Rock, Ark., Loeda Ahlberg of Jonesboro, Ark.; three grandchildren, David Landers (Lauren) of Searcy, Arkansas, Leslie Landers Letsch (Michael), of Maumelle, Arkansas, and David Parker (Julie) of Crossett, Arkansas; and three great-grandchildren, Emma, Reece, and Bree Parker of Crossett, Arkansas. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 12, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Crossett with Rev. Jamie Staley and Rev. Bob Whitely officiating. Interment will follow at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett. (www.jonesservice.com).
