Atwell Rudolph Garrett

Atwell Rudolph "Rudy" Garrett, 87, of Cabot, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at his home. He was born March 11, 1925 in Clinchfield, Virginia, a son of the late Arthur and Bess Bartley Garrett. A United States Navy Veteran of WWII, Rudy started in radio and then television, becoming Chief Engineer and Executive Vice President of KATV, Channel 7, and Channel 8 in Tulsa for many years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Cutrer Garrett and a brother, J. Elwood Garrett. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Durkee Garrett of Cabot; one son, Thomas A. Garrett and his wife, Cathy of Batesville; one daughter, Catherine M. Watts and her husband, James of Pine Bluff; two granddaughters, seven grandsons and many great-grandchildren. Funeral services are 3 p.m., Sunday, May 20, 2012 in the chapel of Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, in Lebanon, Virginia with Rev. Wil Cantrell officiating.
