Atwell Rudolph Garrett

Atwell Rudolph "Rudy" Garrett, 87, of Cabot, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at his home. He was born March 11, 1925 in Clinchfield, Virginia, a son of the late Arthur and Bess Bartley Garrett. A United States Navy Veteran of WWII, Rudy started in radio and then television, becoming Chief Engineer and Executive Vice President of KATV, Channel 7, and Channel 8 in Tulsa for many years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Cutrer Garrett and a brother, J. Elwood Garrett. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Durkee Garrett of Cabot; one son, Thomas A. Garrett and his wife, Cathy of Batesville; one daughter, Catherine M. Watts and her husband, James of Pine Bluff; two granddaughters, seven grandsons and many great-grandchildren. Funeral services are 3 p.m., Sunday, May 20, 2012 in the chapel of Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, in Lebanon, Virginia with Rev. Wil Cantrell officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lebanon Memorial United Methodist Church, 24 Tate St., Lebanon, Va. 24266 or Cabot United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1118, Cabot, Ark. 72023.
