Henry Maney Heckle

Henry Maney Heckle died on January 11, 2013. He was 86 years old. Maney was a native of Memphis, Tenn., past resident of Heber Springs, Ark., and resident of Fairhope, Ala. Maney was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Navy. After service, he attended the University of Virginia and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Following university, Maney was involved in his father's business and later became Sales Manager of Woodson-Bozeman Distributors in Memphis from which he retired in 1993. Maney was an ardent golfer. His competitive spirit was very strong but, more than winning, he valued golf as a Gentleman's game. As a father, husband, and friend, he never failed in his generosity and compassion. Maney embraced fully the adventure of living. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ferdinand "Ferd" Heckle and Annie Mae Maney Heckle, and his brother Ferdinand, Jr. "Ferd." Maney is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sara Sloan Heckle, five children, Henry Maney Heckle, Jr. (Harriet "Happy") of Memphis, Tenn., Laurence Kenner (Jack) of Horseshoe Lake, Ark., Eileen Adams (Bill) of Memphis, Tenn., Lee Walton Heckle of Memphis, Tenn., Lona Ray (Chris) of Colorado, seven grandchildren, two great-granddaughters, three step-children, Virginia Smith-Fields of Austin, Texas, Sarah Elizabeth Leibold (Rob) of San Antonio, Texas, Milton Baber Smith of Walnut Ridge, Ark., and of Memphis, Tenn., and six step-grandchildren. The family is grateful for the loving care of Kerri and the sitters of Diversified Healthcare 1, the solicitous support of the caregivers of Odyssey Hospice, the professionalism of his healthcare providers at Diagnostic Medical Clinic, and that of Dr. Susan Smith, Hospitalist at Thomas Hospital. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at 2 p..m., from St. James Episcopal Church in Fairhope, Ala., where Maney and Sara are congregants. The committal service will be private.
