Garland Leon Coley

GARLAND LEON COLEY, age 88, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2013, at the Valley Ranch Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Little Rock, Ark. He was born Oct. 27, 1924, in Weeks, Ark., the first son of the late Mary Marie Bailey Coley and Jess Walter Coley. He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law: Linda C. Barg and Dr. Charles D. Barg, and Belinda C. Eley and Rex Eley, both of Little Rock, Ark.; and Dorothy C. Dyke and O. Lewis Dyke of Port Charlotte, Fla. He is also survived by three brothers: Arland (Elizabeth) Coley of McCrory, Ark., Ellis (Glendola) Coley of Judsonia, Ark., and Bobby Coley of Flippin, Ark.; and seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his youngest brother, Jimmy, in 2005, and by the mother of his three daughters, Anna F. Browning Coley, in 2007. He lived most of his adult life in Forrest City, Ark., where he owned a successful dry cleaning business and was involved in many community activities. He later retired from Forrest City Grocery Company. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his many friends and was an avid gardener. He proudly served his country during World War II in the Merchant Marines alongside his brother, Arland. The family will receive visitors at the Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home in McCrory, Ark., on Monday, June 17, 2013, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Followed by graveside services at the Pumpkin Bend Cemetery in Morton, Ark. at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Pumpkin Bend Cemetery, Margie James, 2396 Woodruff 375, McCrory, Ark. 72101 or the Humane Society of Pulaski County, 14600 Colonel Glenn Road, Little Rock, Ark. 72210.
