G. HOWARD PIERCE, age 92, of Little Rock, Ark., died on Sept. 27, 2013. He was born on Nov. 21, 1920 at Russell, Ark., a son of the late Reverend George W. and Carribelle Pierce. Mr. Pierce was a journeyman union printer by trade and a World War II Naval Veteran; a past president and recording secretary of the Little Rock Typographical Union Local 92, past president of the Central Arkansas Trades Council; past vice-president of the Arkansas Federation of Labor; former deputy-commissioner and commissioner of Labor of Arkansas; former director of Industrial Union Department of Local 382 International Union of Operating Engineers AFL-CIO; and State Printing Clerk in the Auditor of State for Arkansas Office. He was a charter member of Temple Baptist Church, Meadowcliff Baptist Church and Chenal Valley Baptist Church, all of Little Rock and a bible teacher for 57 years and a deacon for 35 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Carribelle Pierce; first wife, Mary Jane Casey Pierce; son, Donald Pierce; second wife, Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Lee Pierce; brother, Erwin Pierce and wife, Myrtle. He is survived by one son, John of Quitman, Ark.; daughter-in-law, Anne Pierce of Little Rock; five grandchildren, Stephen Bradley Pierce and wife, Jennifer; Angela Smiley and husband, Vance; Marc Aaron Pierce; Casey Atwood and husband, Chris; Jennifer Summerlin and husband, Jay; nine great-grandchildren, two nieces and many friends and loved ones. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 30, 2013 at Temple Baptist Church, 10701 Interstate 30, Little Rock, Ark. 72209 with Reverend Tom Mitchell officiating. Interment will be at Forest Hills Memorial Park, 10201 Highway 5 North, Alexander, Ark. Arrangements by Roller-Drummond Funeral Home, 10900 Interstate 30, Little Rock, Ark. 72209 (501) 455-5800.
