Eleanor Wassell Seeton

Eleanor Randolph (Wassell) Seeton, 98, of Durham, wife of the late Leland W. Seeton, passed away on Friday, April 3rd at Middlesex Hospital. Born in Wuchang, Hupeh, China, she was the daughter of the late Corydon and Mary Irene (Yarnell) Wassell. At age 10, Eleanor and her brothers moved to the family home at 2005 Scott Street in Little Rock, Arkansas. Eleanor had lived in Durham since 1947 and was very active member of the Church of the Epiphany. She was a graduate of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and graduated Wesleyan University with a Master's Degree. Eleanor was a substitute teacher throughout Middlesex County and retired from teaching in the Cromwell School System. She was a member of Wadsworth Chapter of the DAR, a former member of the Durham Garden Club and a volunteer for the Red Cross and the Durham Library. Eleanor also loved a good game of bridge. Eleanor is survived by her son, Leland W. Seeton Jr. of Wilton, NH; her daughter, Martha Seeton-Magee and her husband, George of Durham; a grandson, Corydon R. Magee of Clinton; a sister-in-law, Barbara Goldstein of Lexington, Va. and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her husband and parents, Eleanor was predeceased by her sister, Ruth Helen Wassell; two brothers, John Wassell (Martha) and James Wassell and her stepmother, Madeline Day Wassell. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 13th at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Epiphany, 196 Main Street, Durham. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
