Maxine Hankwitz, age 94 of Camden, Ark., died Thursday, December 1, 2016. She was born August 31, 1922 in Mt. View, AR. A daughter of the late Clarence and Essie Anderson. She was a lifelong member of Fairview United Methodist Church, retired from Safeway, where she was employed for many years. She always had a smile on her face, was hard working, kind hearted, and always put others before herself. She was greatly loved and respected by all who knew her. Her sense of humor and love of life influenced everyone who was blessed enough to meet her. She will be missed more than can be expressed. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Arlo; daughter, Karen Hughes; sons-in-law, John Floyd Hughes and Bill Jackson; grandson, John Brooks Hughes; brother, Glen Anderson. Maxine is survived by her daughters, Sue Jackson of Bearden, Dianne Bird and husband Bill of West Palm Beach, FIa., sister, Betty Avey; brother Jimmy Anderson and wife, Ruth; sister-in-law, Nancy Anderson all of Mt View, Ark.; grandchildren, Chris Hughes and Cheryl Davis of Camden, Kathy Jackson of Houston, Texas, Matthew Jackson of Corpus Christi, Texas, Toni Bird of West Palm Beach, Fla., three great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A special thanks to her caregivers, Bobbie Sheffield, Ethel McDonald, Shirley Slaughter and Velinda Ryan. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, December 4, 2016 at Proctor Funeral Home with burial Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Allen Crum will officiate the service. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Sunday at funeral home. Memorials may be made to Fairview United Methodist Church or to Ouachita County Medical Center Hospice.
