Vada Sue Adams

Vada Sue B. Adams, 79 of Fordyce went to be with the Lord Thursday December 15, 2016 at St. Vincent Infirmary after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born June 7, 1937 in Fordyce. She went to school at Fordyce, where she was a cheerleader and graduated in 1955. She went to the University of Arkansas at Monticello where she received a BSE. She received her Master's Degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. She was an elementary school teacher and principal for thirty one years. She also worked at Southern Nursing Home in the maintenance department. Her last job was as church secretary at Beech Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she worked until recently. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Sesame Club. She worked with candy stripers and Girl Scouts. She worked with Little Choir, taught Girls in Action, Sunday School, and was involved with Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting, reading, and animals. She is preceded in death by her parents, Nuel and Verda Barnes; a sister, Peggy Coats; a brother, Dale Newton Barnes; a son, David McMann; and a husband, Sherrell Adams. Survivors include her daughter, Mitzi McMann Garlington and her husband Mike of Fordyce, Melanie McMann Robertson and her husband Steve of Little Rock; two grandsons, Alan Lane Quimby and his wife Keturah of Cabot, Travis Garlington and his wife Mary of Conway; two great-grandsons, Owen and Sawyer Garlington; two nephews, Mike Coats and wife Tonya of Conway, and Craig Coats and wife Jackie of Mount Ida. There will be a graveside service 10 a.m. Saturday at Stoney Point Cemetery followed by a memorial service at Beech Grove Missionary Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Saturday. Memorials may be made to Beech Grove Missionary Baptist Church or an animal shelter of your choice. Arrangements are by Benton Funeral Home of Fordyce.
