Melvo Junior Pledger

Melvo Pledger, 87, of Paragould, went to heaven to be with his wife on March 24, 2016. He passed away at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Melvo was born on October 5, 1928, in Stepps, Oklahoma to Elbert Pledger and Della M. (Fields) Pledger. Hugh Stoker raised him as his son. He graduated from school in Paragould, Arkansas. He married Helen Ledford on January 25, 1958. He retired from the Arkansas State Highway Department April 1987 as the Senior Construction Materials Inspector with 37 years of service. He was Baptist. Melvo loved being with his family, collected model vehicles, loved John Wayne movies and admired Audie Murphy. Survivors include three sons, Larry Pledger of the home, Dale Pledger (Brenda) of White Hall, Arkansas, and Donald Pledger (companion, Delbert) of Muleshoe, Texas; and two daughters, Pamela Clark (companion, Glen Hobbs) of Redfield, Arkansas, and Joanna Kelley of Newport, Arkansas. He is also survived by five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several half-brothers and half-sisters. He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Della and Hugh Stoker; and his wife, Helen Pledger. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, March 28th, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould, with Dennis Scudder officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery.
