George Walter Bramblett Jr.

George Walter Bramblett Jr. was born in Dallas on May 29, 1940, but grew up in El Dorado, Arkansas in Union County. He was the son of Nell and George Walter Bramblett. He died at home on Monday morning, November 21, 2016. In high school and in college, he was a disc jockey for KELD in Union County, and also was a drummer in the HiFi Band of El Dorado. He attended SMU as an undergrad and SMU Law School where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity. George received the SMU Law School Distinguished Alumni Award for Private Practice in 2001 and was honored as a Distinguished Alumnus of SMU in 2010. He was a member of the Salesmanship Club, Northwood Country Club and an active member of Highland Park United Methodist Church. He was a distinguished trial lawyer involved in high profile, high stakes litigation. George had an extensive and diverse trial practice for more than forty years representing clients in the full range of business, commercial and tort litigation. He also had significant experience in the general area of securities and shareholder litigation. George was a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers (Texas State Chair), a Fellow in the American Board of Trial Advocates (President of Dallas Chapter), a Fellow in the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, a Fellow in the International Academy of Barristers, and a Master and Former President in the William Mac Taylor American Inns of Court (112th). He was the recipient of the Luther Soules III Award for Excellence in Litigation in 2013 and was recognized by the Best Lawyers' 2013 Dallas Litigation Lawyer of the Year and by Chambers USA 2009-2012 as one of the leading practitioners in the United States for Litigation: General Commercial. In 2009, he received the Dallas Lawyers Auxiliary 27th Annual Justinian Award-honoring dedication to community service. He received the Dallas Bar Foundation Fellows Award in 2008 as well as the Anti-Defamation League Jurisprudence Award in September 2005. In 2001, the Dallas Bar Association named him Trial Lawyer of the Year. He was inducted in to the Hall of Fame of Baylor College of Dentistry in 2003. His community involvement included the Board of Trustees for the Hillcrest Foundation since 2008, Chair of the Board of Trustees of Baylor College of Dentistry, Chair, Board of Trustees for the Baylor Oral Health Foundation 1994, Board of Trustees for the Southwestern Medical Foundation 1997, Chair, Board of Trustees for the Phi Gamma Delta Educational Foundation, Chair, Board of Directors for the Alliance for Higher Education, Chair 1999-2000, and member of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board of the Texas College and University System of Texas 1983-1991. Mr. Bramblett is survived by his wife, Pedie, by his daughter, Faerol Bramblett Wiedman, her husband, John and sons, John, David and Matthew Wiedman of Eden Prairie, Minn., his son George Bramblett III of Dallas, and his son, Graham Bramblett of St. Paul, Minn. He is also survived by his brother, Gene Bramblett and his wife Barb of Camden, Arkansas and their children, and his sister, JoAnn Jones of El Dorado, Arkansas and her children.
