ERNESTINE ZIMMEREBNER HUM, age 90, of North Little Rock, died on Nov. 26, 2016 after bravely living with Alzheimer's Disease for over 10 years. For most of those years, Ernie's strength, generosity and playfulness remained, despite losing so much. She was born on Sept. 30, 1926 in St. Vincent, Ark., to Freda and Joseph Zimmerebner. She is predeceased by her parents and sisters, Abbie Zimmerebner Oswald, Marie, Angeline and Josephine Zimmerebner. Others preceding her are infants, Andrew Henry Zimmerebner, Randall David Hum and Penelope Laine Hum. Ernie was a supportive wife, faithful sister, selfless mother and loving grandmother and great-grandmother. Ernie's life continues to be celebrated by John Hum, husband of 66 years, Helen Zimmerebner, sister, and Ernestine's children, Vickey Hum Metrailer (Jim), Patrick Hum (Lisa) and Gary Hum (Charlsie). Mema passes on her love of family, fellowship and feasts to her nine grandchildren who will always adore her: Emily, Jamie, John Thomas, Aaron, Leo, Ashley, Diana, Patrick and Nick as well as her nine great–grandchildren who will carry on her compassionate spirit. Ernie graduated from Jacksonville High School where she was a talented basketball player. As a young woman, she was a PBX operator at the Bell Telephone Company. When her children were older, she rejoined the workforce at Beach Abstract Company until retirement. Ernie enjoyed volunteering at St. Patrick's Church and School, and she never turned down a friendly game of poker. Ernestine's caring nature, warm smile, welcoming laughter and unconditional love exemplify how to treat others. Ernie's family expresses our deep gratitude to Dr. Morgan Sauer who guided and supported us on this journey. We are also forever grateful to Ernie's caregivers from Foxridge Memory Center and Hospice Home Care who cared for, loved and laughed with her over the past several years. Visitation will be held at Smith-North Little Rock Funeral Home on Tuesday, Nov. 29 at 5:30 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 6:30 p.m.. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 1 p.m. at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 6150 Remount Road, North Little Rock, Ark.
