Jean Stobaugh

Mrs. Jean (O'Brien) Stobaugh of Jonesboro, formerly of Newport, departed this life on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at the age of 87. She was born March 21, 1930 in Conway County, Arkansas, the daughter of Ernest and Imo (Bird) O'Brien. Mrs. Stobaugh was a retired bookkeeper and banker. She was an avid reader, who enjoyed cooking, needle work, and playing cards with her friends. Mrs. Stobaugh was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro, and a former member of the First Baptist Church of Newport. While at Newport, she thoroughly enjoyed counting the offering every Monday. She married Mr. Joe Stobaugh on December 27, 1946, and they spent 69 years together. He preceded her in death on May 12, 2016. Mrs. Stobaugh was also preceded in death by two brothers, Dwight and Joe O'Brien; one sister, Margarite Prince; and her parents. She is survived by one daughter, Joy Lynn McNeil and husband, Randy, of Jonesboro; one son, Russell Brien Stobaugh of Plano, Texas; five grandchildren, Meredith McNeil Causey and husband, Chad, of Little Rock, Joseph McNeil and fiance', Ashley Cummings, of Jonesboro, Taylor Stobaugh, Tanner Stobaugh, and Trent Stobaugh, all of Plano, Texas; one great-grandchild, Claire Causey of Little Rock; and baby boy Causey, due in May; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may visit at the funeral home, Friday, beginning at 12:30 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Jackson's Newport Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Bruce Venable officiating.
