Brett Tyler Baker, age 28, of Malvern, died Tuesday, March 7, 2017 in Texarkana, Arkansas. He was born on December 14, 1988 in Hot Springs to Butch Baker and Susan Ripley Baker. Reared and receiving his early education in Malvern, he graduated from Malvern High School in 2007. He was a Malvern Leopard through and through, and played offensive tackle, defensive end, and linebacker for the team. Brett was currently active in the Arkansas National Guard, and was deployed to Kuwait from 2014 to 2015. He was a Methodist. He is survived by his parents, Butch and Susan Baker of Malvern; his brother, Nathan Baker of Conway; his nephew, Gabe Baker; and a host of friends. Some special people in his life include Micah, Shawn, Chris, Toni, and Skylee; his National Guard Unit, and his fellow Leopard teammates and coaches from his high school years of 2004-2007. Brett was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Kermit and Marie Baker, and Herschel and Sherrill Ripley. His funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Friday afternoon, March 10, 2017 in the chapel of J. A. Funk Funeral Home. A visitation will precede the service, beginning at 2 p.m. Military Honors will be provided at the funeral home following the service.
