Joan Bearden Broening

Joan Bearden Broening, 88, of Little Rock, passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2017 in home hospice. She was born in 1928 in Big Rock Township, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Roby and Ruby Bearden. She grew up cantering with her beloved horses among the hills and streams of Morrilton and Solgohachia. After graduating Ouachita Baptist College, she moved to Little Rock with her parents where she met her future husband, Harry. Joan enjoyed the arts, photography, watercolor, science fiction, late night movies and was active with early Ballet Arkansas. She also taught a Sunday school singles class at Immanuel Baptist church in the 70's and 80's, tended garden, and looked after all creatures great and small, especially cats. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harry W. Broening Jr., to whom she was married for 54 years. She is survived by two sons, Daniel Broening of Little Rock and Bill and his wife, Margo Broening of Cincinnati, Ohio; three beautiful grandchildren, Alex, Will, and Anna; and one brother, Roby Bearden and his wife, Barbara of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Services will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Pulaski Heights Baptist Church, 2200 Kavanaugh Boulevard, Little Rock, Arkansas 72205 with Dr. Randy Hyde officiating.
