Ellen Sue Rogers Rownd, 96, of Little Rock passed away on May 2, 2017. She was born in Pottsville, Arkansas on April 14, 1921 to James Claude Rogers and Sarah Jane Teeter Rogers. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Bert Rownd. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Ed Rownd (Bonita) of Jacksonville, Arkansas, Carolyn Francis (Lee) of Naples, Florida and Judy Garner (Jeff) of Little Rock, her grandchildren Eric Rownd (Jennifer), Jake Rownd, Katie Wood (Rick), Laura Garner, Annalea Garner and Kevin Garner, as well as seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and extended friends and family. Sue was raised in Grady, Arkansas and attended Arkansas A&M (UAM) where she was the first female editor of the school newspaper. After graduation, she taught high school in Wabbeseka, Russellville, and Springdale, prior to starting her family. She later sold World Book Encyclopedia for more than 20 years. In recent years she volunteered for Arkansas Hospice, enjoyed her book club, and was an active member of the Dignity LIFT group with Griffin Leggett Funeral Homes. She was also an active member of Geyer Springs United Methodist for over 50 years. She was an avid sports fan, especially of Razorback basketball and often corresponded with the players by email. There will be a memorial service at 12 noon on Friday, May 5 at Geyer Springs United Methodist Church, Little Rock, with a graveside service preceding at 10 a.m. at Rest Hills Memorial Park, North Little Rock. The family will receive friends for visitation at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth Funeral Home, 5800 West 12th Street in Little Rock from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 4th.
