Alberta Coleman Nellum, the baby of the late Rufus and Martha Coleman Sr., was born on January 8, 1935 in Lonoke County Arkansas. At an early age she became a follower of Christ at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, later united to New Zion Chapel. Alberta became an accomplished seamstress after spending much time with her Aunt Beatrice. She helped provide for the family through many years of employment at Kellwood. In November of 1955 she married Paul Nellum. They served as Pastor and 1st Lady of several churches, Jerusalem, Elm Grove and Mt. Cannan. Together they raised 17 children. Alberta was called home to be with the Lord early May 13, 2017 at the age of 82. Her parents, six brothers, four sons (Aaron, Ollie, Sylvester & Otis) and three daughters (Sarah, Betty & Annie) preceded her in death. Loving memories will be carried on by her remaining family of four sons- Leeo (Mary) Nellum of Conway, Robert and Morris Nellum of Lonoke, and Collins Ray (Sherri) Nellum of Fort Smith; six daughters – Essie Johnson, Odessa Jones & Alice Rufus of Lonoke, Norma (John) Curlett of Conway, Paullester Walker of Sikeston, Mo. and Louise Scott of Little Rock; two brothers – L.C. Coleman of Lonoke and Roy Coleman of England; 40 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and a huge host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 20 at Boyd Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following in Lonoke Cemetery. www.boydfuneralhome.net.
