Robert Anton Swaty

Robert Anton Swaty, born October 2, 1920 in Swaty, Arkansas, passed away May 22, 2017. He is survived by his wife, Jenny Louise Couny; sons, John, Bob and Danny; daughter, Linda; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Robert served during WWII in Patton's Third Division in the Signal Corps as a Sergeant. He attended LSU for two years, and received his BSE from Henderson. He earned his MA in French at the University of Houston, and also attended the Sorbonne in Paris, France. Robert taught French at Central High School from 1959-1984. He spent his retirement gardening, reading, traveling and enjoying his grandchildren. Among his travels was a trip to Normandy, France in 1995 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of D-Day, and trips to Great Britain, Austria, Slovenia and throughout France. Robert led a full life surrounded by his family who will miss him dearly. Services will be Friday, May 26 at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation beginning at 10 a.m., at Western Hills United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Anne Holcomb.
