Mabel Thompson Watkins

MABEL THOMPSON WATKINS, 99, was called home to be with the Lord on May 22nd in Little Rock. She was the widow of the Presiding Elder Rev. James"JM" Mark Watkins. Mabel had a lengthy history in the A.M.E church especially in the 12th Episcopal District. She was a member of St. Andrew A.M.E. Church where she served on the church's Virginia Jones Missionary Society and her most recent position was the church's Corresponding Secretary. Mabel was a graduate of Philander Smith College and the State College of Arkansas now University of Central Arkansas. After many years of service she retired from Pulaski County Special School District as the Librarian. She was a member of Theta Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. for over 70 plus years. She leaves to cherish her memories two sons Fred Wroten of North Little Rock and Dewayne (Candi) Watkins; grandson, James Watkins both of Texas and many family members and friends. Public viewing is Tuesday, May 30th, from noon-6 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 31st, at St. Andrew A.M.E. Church, 3003 Bishop Street, Little Rock.
