Doyle Edward Tucker, 90, of Little Rock, Arkansas, went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, October 30, 2017. He was born February 4, 1927 in England, Arkansas to Clarence E. Tucker and Lee Vada Knight Tucker. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to his family and others. No one could ever meet a man who worked harder than Doyle, often holding down as many as 3 jobs at a time to provide for his family. His devotion to his wife Ruth for 62 years of marriage was unending, especially during her long illness with Alzheimers disease. During this time he never left her side and his devotion to her was admired by all. Doyle loved sports of all kinds with a special devotion to the Arkansas Razorbacks. n his latter years, he enjoyed several cruises with his immediate family and multiple trips to Branson, Missouri. Although we will miss him dearly every day, we have the assurance of being re-united with him in heaven. During World War II, Doyle joined the Navy at age 17 and served in the Pacific Theater in 1944-46 aboard the U.S.S. Pine Island. On June 20, 1948 at First Baptist Church in Little Rock, he and the love of his life Ruth were married. In that same year he joined the Little Rock Fire Department, where he served for 20 years retiring in 1968, achieving the rank of Captain. For many years until his final retirement, he drove trucks for Arkla Gas and Wonder Bread. Doyle was a committed Christian, one who never compromised his beliefs. He and Ruth provided a loving Christian home for the entire years of their marriage. Membership at Immanuel Baptist Church in Little Rock was a cornerstone of his life, attending regularly until it became physically impossible. For the last 12 years of his life, he resided at Parkway Village in Little Rock, where his passion was fellowship and making coffee for various groups of the men. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Black Tucker, on January 2, 2011; his parents, Clarence and Lee Vada Tucker, brother, Elmer Tucker, Jr., infant brother, Leroy Tucker, and son, Calvin Edward Tucker. He is survived by his daughter, Susie Snell and husband Frank of Little Rock; two grandchildren, Brant Snell and wife Kim and Melissa Snell, all of Little Rock; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank all of the many doctors and nurses at Baptist Health Medical Center Little Rock, Parkway Village, and Phil Schmidt with Homeality for the kindness and generosity that they showed Doyle and his family during his illness.
