Houston "John" Burford III, a long-time resident of Conway, Ark., died unexpectedly on Nov. 22, 2017, at the age of 53. John was born on June 16, 1964, to Houston "John" Burford Jr. and Lynda Davis Burford of Hot Springs, Ark. John was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Shan Scott and his nephew Brian Brenske. John is survived by his wife of more than 25 years, Kristina Brenske Burford, his parents, his children, Jay and Anna Grace, and his sister, Joy (Burford) Scott, his nephews Devin and Sam Scott and nieces Sarah Patrick and Savannah Scott and great-nephew Dominick Patrick. John was the most devoted husband and father. On Feb. 1, 1993, and Nov. 20, 2002, respectively, he welcomed his two wonderful children, who were the most important part of his life. John served in the United States Army stationed at Fort Wainwright, Alaska, and was currently employed at Walmart Store #5. John was a lifelong Episcopalian, attending St. Luke's Hot Springs in his youth. As a current member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, he was a Lay Eucharistic Minister, a catechist having taught Sunday School for over ten years. John was a dedicated volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America for more than 17 years. He held numerous positions with the Boy Scouts and shared the love of scouting with his son, Jay. Some of his most memorable achievements were serving as the Course Director for National Youth Leadership Training Class of 2010, Foothills Chapter Adviser and Vigil Honor Member of the Order of the Arrow, and staffing Wood Badge Training at Camp Rockefeller. John was also an avid video game player, a passion he shared with his daughter, Anna Grace, and a self-proclaimed "King of Knowledge" in all things trivia. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, at Roller- McNutt Funeral Home in Conway. Memorial Service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Conway, Ark., with interment to follow at St. Peter's Columbarium.
