Juanita Van Dusen Efird

Juanita Van Dusen Efird passed away October 25 at her home. She was born September 16, 1924 to the late Clyde and Alma Erwin Van Dusen. She received the Fields PTA-Lifetime Award, and served as a volunteer bookkeeper for over 20 years for the Malvern Little League and Park Hill Swimming Pool. She was a member of PEO Chapter BC and founded and served as chairman of the North Malvern Civic League; she loved Malvern and was concerned about the state of the city where she was born and died. Mrs. Efird was a lifelong Methodist and UMW member who began teaching Sunday School at 16 and continued for over 60 years. She learned to make baskets working in her father's basket business during the depression and continued making baskets as a hobby in her retirement years. She is preceded in death by the love of her life, husband Virgil Efird, whom she married July 22, 1942, and siblings-Lt. Clyde Erwin Van Dusen, Lynette Collums, Milton Van Dusen, Sarah Anderson, and great-grandson Joshua Jackson. Survivors are her sons-Dr. Stephen (Sherry) Efird, Alan (Sharon) Efird, Timothy (Lisa) Efird, Paul (Shelly) Efird, daughters Anne (Bill) Jackson, and Cindy (Donnie) Gray, 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Visitation: Saturday, October 28, 2017, 1 p.m. Malvern First United Methodist Church, services follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Rockport Memorial Garden.
