Annelotte Turbanisch Koumas

ANNELOTTE TURBANISCH KOUMAS, age 89, passed away May 26, 2018. Annelotte was born Aug. 17, 1928 in Himmelkron, Germany. Annelotte was preceded in death by her parents, Eduard Turbanisch and Babette Opal, her brother Rolf Turbanisch, and her husband, Peter Koumas. Annelotte and Peter were married 61 years. She is survived by her sister Gerlinde Weiss of Weiden, Germany; three children, Christine G. Bettis of Little Rock, Ark., Peter C. Koumas IV, DO of Dayton, Ohio, and Michael E. Koumas DO of Sunbury, Ohio; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Annelotte and Peter met while he was stationed in Germany during World War II. She worked at the American PX on the base in Weiden, where they met. After a ten month courtship they were married by the US Army Chaplain, Lutheran Church in Weiden and the Greek Orthodox Church in Chicago, which they said made them "really, really married". She left behind her country, her family and friends to live in a country she knew little about, to be with the man she loved. They shared an enduring love that spanned continents and decades, and that love remained foremost in her heart and mind. Family was the focus of Annelotte's life, and she was very proud of her family. Annelotte loved to share pictures and stories of her family –especially her children's accomplishments. She loved to go for long walks and bring back flowers she found to arrange in vases. Annelotte's love of crossword puzzles was well known and relished the idea of solving the New York Times Sunday puzzle. She was a sharp dresser throughout her life, and she always looked ready for a photo shoot. Her family wishes to remember a life well lived and celebrate the legacy of love, family and grace that she left for them. A memorial service will begin at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Roller Chenal Funeral home, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Ark. 72211, (501) 224-8300 with Pastor Dan Hauser officiating.
